A life between languages
Languages and cultures have shaped Pedro's life from the start. Born in Brazil, he moved to Bolivia with his family at the age of 12 and spent his teenage years there, graduating from a bilingual English–Spanish high school.
He returned to Brazil to study translation at the University of Brasília and began his career in the Brasília market. He later moved to Chile for a master's degree in translation technology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (PUC Chile), and made Santiago his home.
In 2015 he founded Filigrana, now FILI Idiomas y Comunicación, a boutique language services company in Santiago. As managing partner, he leads and supervises translation projects and interpreting teams for events across South America.
Conference interpreting
Since 2004, Pedro has worked as a conference interpreter, with Portuguese and Spanish as A languages and English as his B language. He has delivered more than 15,000 hours of simultaneous, consecutive, whispered and liaison interpreting at conferences, meetings and official visits.
He has interpreted for heads of state and senior officials, including Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Dilma Rousseff, Michel Temer, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, Evo Morales, Michelle Bachelet, José “Pepe” Mujica, Ollanta Humala and Hillary Clinton, as well as for members of parliament from several countries.
Translation and editing
Pedro translates, proofreads and edits in Portuguese, Spanish and English for companies, international organizations, government agencies and nonprofits, averaging around 20,000 words a month.
His work includes reports, technical manuals, advertising, corporate communications and academic texts in fields such as mining, environment and climate change, agriculture, medicine, finance, international cooperation, philosophy, art and music.
Beyond the booth
Pedro has also worked as a subtitler, voice-over artist and university professor. He has served public- and private-sector clients in Brazil, Chile, the United States, Mexico, Canada, Portugal, France, Italy and Spain, among other countries.
